APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR
ASIA FOREIGN STUDY SCHOLARSHIP
(MACAO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
PROGRAM-CHINA)
The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (Macao University of Science and Technology-China) is a partial scholarship donated to Education Forum for Asia by Macao University of Science and Technology. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) administers the recruitment and routine management of the program.
10 scholarship seats will be provided between 2006-2010. 5 are reserved for Chinese nationals pursuing Master’s degrees, and the other 5 are reserved for applicants from other Asian countries working towards a Master’s or engaging in advanced studies.
1. Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Languages of Instruction
1) This program sponsors 5 Chinese nationals pursuing Master’s degrees and 5 non-Chinese nationals pursuing undergraduate studies or engaging in advanced study.
2) The scholarship covers the cost of tuition.
3) Courses will be taught in Chinese and English, which requires candidates to be adequately proficient in both languages before beginning study of a major.
2. Application
Non-Chinese nationals should apply to Education Forum for Asia via the Chinese embassy in their home country or the embassy of their home country in China. Chinese nationals may apply directly to Education Forum for Asia. Applications will be accepted from the beginning of January to the beginning of April.
3. Eligibility
1) All applicants must be in good health.
2) Academic Requirements:
l Students wishing to do undergraduate work must have graduated from high school.
l Students engaging in advanced studies must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
l Master’s students must have a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and relevant work experience.
4. Details of Scholarship
1) This program covers only tuition costs.
2) Students will be responsible for all other expenses.
5. Application Materials
All applicants must provide the following materials correctly and truthfully:
1) Application Form for Asia Foreign Study Scholarship, 1 original and 1 copy in Chinese or English
2) Notarized copies of highest diploma and academic transcript. If an applicant is a university student or already employed, he or she should also provide verification documents. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached Chinese or English translations.
3) Senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors.
4) A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words)
5) All applicants must present a physical examination report and vaccination record at registration. This exam should be given within 3 months of applying. Students may either undergo a physical examination in their home country or make an appointment for an exam after arrival in Macao at either the Macao Health Center or the Kiang Wu Hospital.
The abovementioned materials must reach Macao University of Science and Technology via Education Forum for Asia by April 30th. Application materials will not be returned.
6. Selection of Discipline
Scholarship students at Macao University of Science and Technology may choose from the following disciplines (both undergraduate and graduate students): Law, Administration and Management, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Information Technology, or Elementary Education. 7. Approval and Notification
1) The CSC will review all application materials and then send them to Macao University of Science and Technology, who will make the final decision. Applications will be deemed invalid if the applicant is not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with recruitment regulations, or materials are incomplete.
2) Finalized placements, disciplines, and duration of study, are, in principle, not to be changed.
3) The CSC will ensure that the Admission Notice is sent to Education Forum for Asia and forwarded to the applicant by July 31st.
