APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THE ASIA FOREIGN
STUDY SCHOLARSHIP (CAPITAL NORMAL
UNIVERSITY PROGRAM-CHINA)
The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (Capital Normal University Program-China) is a partial scholarship program donated to Education Forum for Asia by Capital Normal University. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) administers the recruitment and routine management of the program.
2 partial scholarships are provided for the 2006/2007 academic year.
1. Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Language of Instruction
1) This program sponsors only general scholars and senior scholars.
2) Duration of Scholarship: 1 year.
3) All courses will be taught in Chinese, which requires the candidate to be proficient in the Chinese language before starting formal study of a major.
2. Application
Applicants should apply to Education Forum for Asia via the Chinese embassy in their home country or the embassy of their home country in China. Applications will be accepted from the beginning of January to the beginning of April.
3. Eligibility
1) Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2) Educational background and age limits:
★Applicants for general scholars must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45.
★Applicants for senior scholars must have a Master’s degree or hold a qualification for pursing a doctoral degree and be under the age of 50.
4. Details of the Scholarship
This partial scholarship only covers tuition (or research) fees. The student will be responsible for all other expenses. These expenses include: campus apartment double-room accommodation 60 RMB per day, food expenses 10,000 RMB, inner-city travel and other incidental expenses 5,000 RMB, insurance fee 1,000 RMB. These are estimated expenses for one year.
5. Application Materials
All applicants must provide the following materials correctly and truthfully.
1) Application Form for Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (China Program) (printed by Education Forum for Asia), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.
2) A notarized copy of highest diploma. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verification documents. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have translations in Chinese or English.
3) Transcripts (notarized copy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached translations in Chinese or English.
4) Senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors.
5) A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words).
6) A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (only for those whose period of study in China lasts over six months) filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration when determining the time to take the medical examination.
The abovementioned materials should be received by the CSC via Education Forum for Asia by April 30th. Materials will not be returned to the applicant.
6. Selection of Discipline
Applicants may choose one discipline from all those offered at Capital Normal University. Refer to the website at http://www.oir.cnu.edu.cn for details.
7. Approval and Notification
1) The CSC will review all application materials. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with the recruitment regulations, or materials are incomplete.
2) Finalized placements, disciplines and duration of study are, in principle, not to be changed.
3) The CSC will have the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) sent to Education Forum for Asia and forwarded to the applicant by July 31st .
