APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR ASIA FOREIGN STUDY SCHOLARSHIP (AMERICAN MASTER’S OF NURSING PROGRAM-USA)
The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (American Master’s of Nursing Program-USA is a full scholarship program donated to Education Forum for Asia as a way to sponsor Chinese nurses. The program is made possible through financial contributions of the Global Scholarship Alliance and the China Vocational Education Satellite Network with the aim of providing an opportunity for Chinese nurses to earn a Master’s in Nursing that meets international standards, as well as to raise the overall quality of nursing care in China.
10 full scholarships are provided for the 2006/2007 academic year.
1. Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Language of Instruction
1) This program seeks students pursuing a Master’s degree in Nursing
2) Scholarships are valid for a period of 2-3 years
3) The language of instruction is English.
2. Application
1) Applicants may be recommended by an organization or school.
2) Applicants may also apply independently. (Applicant will be held solely responsible in the event that application materials are deemed invalid or inaccurate)
3) Applicants are accepted on a rolling admission basis. All applicants must complete an interview by an American scholarship representative.
3. Eligibility
1) Program is open to Chinese Nationals only
2) Students must hold a Bachelor’s degree (earned in China) in Nursing or other medical related field and hold a nursing certificate.
3) Applicants must be under the age of 45.
4) Level of English proficiency must be at least university Level 6
5) Applicants must 1 or more years of experience in a hospital ICU, CCU, or ER.
6) As a way of contributing to the development of nursing care in China, all applicants must agree to return to China and serve for 2 years.
4. Applicant Requirements
1) Students must have a TOEFL score of 540 and a GRE score of 900
2) Applicants must hold an American Registered Nurse (RN) certificate
3) Applicants must have effective oral and written English skills.
4) Prospective students must pass a written examination and successfully complete an interview with representatives from the school at which the student will study.
5. Details of the Scholarship
1) The program will pay fees associated with the TOEFL, GRE, and RN exams.
2) A one-time $700 settlement allowance will be awarded to each scholarship student to cover living expenses during the first month of study. Students will also given a laptop computer to use for the duration of their study.
3) Tuition fees incurred throughout the period required to earn a Master’s degree equaling approximately $30,000-$50,000 is provided.
4) Living Allowance: The amount of the allowance will depend on the number of hours worked. During a typical study week, students will work 20 hours per week. During times with no classes, students will work a 40-hour week. Salary will be commensurate with that of American Registered Nurses. Students may voluntarily do overtime for double the pay.
5) The scholarship provides an air ticket to and from the United States.
6. Application Materials
All applicants must provide the following materials correctly and truthfully:
1) Application Form for Asia Foreign Study Scholarship, one original and one copy, completed in either English or Chinese.
2) A notarized copy of highest diploma. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verification documents.
3) Transcripts (notarized copy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied with translations.
4) Two letter of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors
5) A study or research plan written in Chinese or English
6) All students must submit to a medical examination no earlier than 3 months before the time of application.
7) Documents certifying work experience in a hospital ICU, CCU, and ER, as well as official TOEFL and GRE scores and American Registered Nurse (RN) certification. Students may first apply for the scholarship and later earn the RN certificate.
7. Approval and Notification
1) The Organizing Committee of Education Forum for Asia will review all application materials and send them onto the appropriate organizations, which will make the final decision. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicant is not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with recruitment regulation, or materials are incomplete.
2) After a final interview, an accepted student will receive an official letter of acceptance and will be notified of specific class times.
