Application procedures for The Asia Foreign Study scholarship – Peking University Program Asia Foreign Study scholarship - Peking University Program is a partial scholarship program donated by Peking University to Education Forum for Asia. The International Relations Office of Peking University and Education Forum for Asia co-administer the recruitment and routine management of the program. 5 partial scholarships are provided for 2008/2009 academic year. 1. Categories of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship and Language Requirement 1) This program only sponsors non-degree general and senior scholars. 2) Duration of Scholarship: 1 year. 3) The courses will be taught in Chinese, which requires the candidates have a proficiency of Chinese Language to start their major learning and the minimum requirement is HSK level 7 or above. 2. Application Applicants should, officially apply to Education Forum for Asia via Chinese Embassy in their home country or the Embassy of their home country in China. The deadline for application is the April 30th, 2008. 3. Eligibility 1) Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health. 2) The educational background and age limit: I. Applicants for general scholars must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45. II. Applicants for senior scholars must have master degree or hold a qualification for pursing doctoral degree and be under the age of 50. 4. Details of the Scholarship This partial scholarship only covers tuition (or research) fees and the other expenses are expected to be self-funded including the following references of accommodation 10,000 RMB (double room standard), basic food expenses of 10000 RMB, in-city travel and other incidental expenses of 5000 RMB, 1000 RMB insurance charge respectively for a year. 5. Application Materials The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly. 1) Application Form for General Scholar Application Form (printed by Education Forum for Asia), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English 2) Highest diploma (notarized photocopy) and academic record. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English transcripts (notarized photocopy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English. 3) Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors 4) A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words) 5) Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority and only for those whose period of studies in China lasts over six months) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining the time to take the medical examination. The above mentioned materials should reach Education Forum for Asia by April 30th, 2008. Application materials will not be returned regardless whether the applicants are accepted or not. 6. Departments Available Applicants may have one choice from the designated departments/schools listed below: Department of Chinese Language and Literature, School of International Relations, Department of History, School of Economics, School of Art Studies, or Department of Philosophy. Approval and Notification 1) The Education Forum for Asia will review all the application materials from the appointed authorities and is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the applied institutions, disciplines and duration of study. Forum will directly contact the application or the applicant guarantor whenever necessary. Qualified applications will be forwarded to Peking University and the final decision whether to admit the applicants or not will be made. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with the recruitment regulations, or are incomplete. 2) Finalized placements, disciplines and duration of studies are, in principle, not to be changed. 3) Education Forum for Asia will have the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) sent to the applicant within a week after documents get received. 8.
