Canadian Students working at Education Forum for Asia

Since May 13th 2013, Esther Dijk, Daniel Czwartkowski and Gaoxiang Li, three students from the Grant MacEwan University School of Business had begun their six week practicum at the Education Forum for Asia. During the practicum period, they were to not only finish the project “studying Abroad: An Analysis of Chinas Scholarships and Recruitment Strategies, but also act as important parts of the organization in many events. They are the fifth group of Canadian practicum students since Education Forum for Asia signed the agreement with Grant MacEwan University, and have been crucial in helping to maintain the relationship between the two organizations.

First, the students met with Yao Wang at Boao Forum for Asia and learned some interesting details about the organization.

Second, the students went to the Malta embassy in Beijing to interview Alberta A. Gretch to examine the relationship between Malta and China in terms of education, as well as deeply understand the relationship between the two countries.

The students then visited the Canadian embassy in Beijing in order to accomplish the same mission as the Malta embassy. They discussed the education relationship between the two countries, and learned about the personal background of Mr. Kenneth Wong, and how he came to be a diplomat.

The students made a visit to china youth daily newspaper. They explored the history of the newspaper company, as well as explored the newspaper factory.

Later that day, the students visited the China Youth Travel Service, and were given a presentation about their services by the foreign department manager.

Esther and Daniel gave an English class to some students at Education Forum for Asia. They talked about the Canadian Wonderland and taught the students about life in Canada.

The students went on a day trip to Beijing Rural Womens School. They talked to a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University named Wu Qing, and attended a lecture that she gave to the women at the school. She is the daughter of the deceased famous Chinese author Bing Xin.

After work, the students also explored Beijing life. They went to dinners, had a KTV night, went shopping, and saw the many cultural sights that Beijing has to offer. Some pictures are below.

The students were given multiple opportunities to explore the culture of working and living in China. They enjoyed their stay at Education Forum for Asia
