Ushering in the New Chapter of Sino-Canadian Education Cooperation--The First Sino-Canadian International Education Forum Ceremoniously Held in Toronto

 

    The first Sino-Canadian International Education Forum was held on May 2, 2014 at Sheraton Hotel, Toronto.

    This forum is hosted by Education Forum for Asia, Chinese Association for Non-Government Education and China Education Investors Chamber of Commerce York University, Asian Business and Management Centre of York University, North American International Cooperation Association and co-hosted by the Training Center of Education Forum for Asia, Preschool Education Committee of Chinese Association for Non-government Education, Beijing Shengtao Institute of Education Development and Innovation EA Education Group Inc., North American International Cooperation Association and Fame Weekly

    The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Tao Xiping, Honorary President of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for Asia and the Pacific Region, and Chairman of Chinese Association for Non-Government Education; Mr. Yao Wang, Secretary-General of the Education Forum for Asia and Senior Executive Director of Boao Forum for Asia; Mr. Wudansheng, Secretary-General of China Education Investors Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Yangzhibin, Chairman of Pre-school Education Committee of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education; and Mrs. Isabella Liu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Education Forum for Asia.

    A delegation consisting of the heads of elementary and secondary educational institutions, as well as educational pundits, will conduct a study tour in Canada, having a face-to-face meeting with the state and provincial MPPs and officials. During their stay, they will also have an in-depth dialogue with Canadian colleges, kindergartens and other educational institutions and organizations on international cooperation, experience-exchange, immigration and the latest progress in the field of education.

    In the opening ceremony, Mr. Victor Oh, Senator of Canada and Mr. Tao Xiping, the Honorary President of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for Asia and the Pacific Region jointly announced the opening of the forum. Attendees including Ted Hsu, the MPP, Xu Weiya, the Chinese Education Counsellor to Toronto,  Soo Wong, Member, Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt; Alan Ho Councilor of City of Markham; and Yao Wang, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of Education Forum for Asia & Executive Director of Boao Forum for Asia; Wu Dansheng, Secretary-general and Vice-chairman of China Education Investors Chamber of Commerce and Yang Zhibin, Vice-chairman of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education & Honorary Chairman of the Pre-school Education Committee of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education, respectively made passionate addresses on behalf their own countries.

    Brad Duguid, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities; Elena Caprioni, Program Director of Asian Business and Management Program of York University; Jeff Zabudsky, President & CEO of Sheridan College, Virginia Macchiavello, Director of International Education Center of Centennial College,  Jin Li, the Deputy Director of International Education Center of Centennial College etc. delivered compelling speeches in the subsequent main conference.
        
    At the end of the main conference, Yang Zhibin, Chairman of the Pre-school Education Committee, Chinese Association for Non-government Education made an

    After the completion of the main-conference in the morning of May 2nd, the following three sub-sessions were held simultaneously: Preschool Education, Sino-Canadian Cooperation in Education, and Interpretation of Canadian Policies on Investment Immigration. The forums fully demonstrated an informative, diversified and multi-dimensional forum. Representatives of prestigious universities, middle schools and educational enterprises from both China and Canada, such as Elena Caprioni, Program Director of Asian Business and Management Program of York University, Gaye Rawding, Director of Faculty of Continuing Education of York University, Wang xx, President, EA Education Group Inc, Shi Jiansong, President, Concord Academy of Canada, Chen Qiaofeng, CEO of Kent School and Yang Youbing, Principal of Shijiazhuang 25th Middle School, made insightful speeches on the first session. They offered invaluable experience in Sino-Canadian cooperation in elementary and secondary education and extended good will in building intra-school partnership with each other.

    The session Interpretation of Canadian Policies on Investment Immigration was attended by representatives from Royal Bank of Canada, local renowned law firms and accounting firms and experts in immigration and studying abroad. They elaborated on the policies of investment immigration to participants, proving especially helpful to the Chinese entrepreneurs present who said they benefited a lot from this sub-session.

    As the most attractive session, Preschool Education brought together experts from top early childhood education institutions in both countries. Delegates of the Toronto District School Board and Preschool Education- Toronto District School Board, professor of Early Childhood Education Program at York University and principals of local famous kindergartens introduced their Canadian school-running experiences and features to Chinese attendees. In return, Shi Yanlai, CEO of RYB Education Technology DevelopmentCo.,Ltd, Beijing and Wang Hongbin, Director of Early Childhood Education EDP Program at Tsinghua University and other outstanding figures in Chinese preschool education field,  introduced the development of domestic, privately-run early childhood education institutions by drawing from their own experience in enterprise operations. In addition, the Chinese early childhood education institutions attending also expressed their strong desire to establish cooperation with their Canadian counterparts.

 

 

   Filled with laughter and cheerful voices, the brightly illuminated Diaoyutai State Banquet Hall (Toronto) witnessed a grand welcoming banquet on the evening of May 2nd, 2014. Canadian senators, MPs and preschool education experts from both China and Canada all got together to spend a beautiful and unforgettable night getting to know each other.

   Isabella Liu, Deputy Secretary-General of Education Forum for Asia, presided over the banquet in which Chris Alexander, Minister of Canada's Citizenship and Immigration, read out the Premier’s Congratulatory Letter. Lois Brown, Member of  Parliament for Newmarket—Aurora (Ontario); Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development, Thomas Mulcair, Leader of New Democratic Party of Canada, He Peijia, Member of Parliament of Canada, Michael Chan,          Ohio Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Norm Kelly, Deputy Mayor of Toronto, and Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of the City of Markham made compelling speeches, extending a warm welcome to Chinese delegates.

   A signing ceremony and plaque-unveiling ceremony were also held in the evening. As a big draw of the banquet, an exciting show was jointly performed by artists from both countries won roaring applause from spectators.

   The forum is designed to build a dialogue mechanism for Chinese and Canadian education communities, through which advanced notions, concepts and experiences can be shared, the education industries of the two countries can be connected, international capital can be pooled, and the voice of educational workers can be heard. This forum is organized?under a noble mission: establishing a new cooperation mechanism and setting up a new standard for Sino-Canadian cooperation on the solid foundation of joint operation.

   Nurtured in amicable ambience, the Sino-Canadian friendship is going from strong to even stronger. In the end, the delegates raised their glasses, toasting a full success of the first Sino-Canadian International Education Forum.
