Hunan Normal University Program

The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship - Hunan Normal University Program is a scholarship program donated to Education Forum for Asia by Hunan Normal University. The Education Forum for Asia Secretariat and Hunan Normal University co-administer the recruitment of the program.

There are 5 scholarships provided for the 2012/2013 academic year.

1.         Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Language of Instruction

1)        This program sponsors Chinese language learners, bachelor degree or non-degree scholars.

2)        Duration of scholarship: 1 semester or 1 year.

3)        All courses will be taught in Chinese. For bachelor degree and non-degree scholars, the mandarin level should meet the requirement of applied major; no prerequisite of mandarine level for Chinese language learners.

2.         Application

1)        Applicants can apply directly to Education Forum for Asia, through Chinese Embassy in the host country, or through their own embassy in China to Education Forum for Asia.

3)        The deadline for all applications is 20th May, 2012.

3.         Eligibility

1)        Applicants must be of non-Chinese nationalities and in good health.

2)        Applicants must have completed at least senior high school studies and be under the age of 45.

4.         Scholarship Remarks

1)        The scholarship covers tuition fees and admission fees.

2)        Any other expenses are at the applicant’s own cost. Estimated costs including:

           600 RMB per month for double room dorm or 1200 RMB for single room dorm; 1500~2000 RMB per month for off-campus apartment shared by 2~3 students; 300-500 RMB yearly for city public transport; 300 RMB for textbooks per semester; 300 RMB for insurance per semester; 400 RMB for residence permit; 400 RMB for      medical check.

5.         Application Package

           Applicants must provide valid documents as below:

1)        Application Form of Hunan Normal University (see attachment 1 or access via http://www.hunnu.edu.cn/english), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.

2)        A notarized copy of the applicants’ highest diplomas and academic records. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verifications. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached Chinese or English translations.

3)        A study plan written in English or Chinese which shall be no less than 400 words.

4)        The Foreigner Medical Check Form should be filled out in English. The medical check is required to foreign scholars who pursue their study in China for more than 6 months (6 months included). Applicants must have all items listed on the Form checked. The incomplete notes, signature without the attending physician or official stamp of the hospital, or the absence of a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The check results will be valid for 6 months.

5)        A photocopy of the front page of a valid passport.

The above mentioned documents should be received by Education Forum for Asia before 20th May 2012. Application materials will NOT be returned to the applicant no matter (s)he is accepted or not.  

6.         Approval and Notification

1)        Education Forum for Asia will review and forward all qualified applications to Hunan Normal University. The decision on the admission of applicants is remain at the university. The application will be considered invalid and will not be processed if documents provided by applicants are incomplete or inconsistent with recruitment regulations.

2)        In general, approved disciplines and duration of the study will not allow to be changed after the Offer of Admission has been issued to the applicant.

3)        Education Forum for Asia will send out the Offer of Admission and Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202) to successful applicants before 31st July 2012.
