Asia Foreign Study Scholarship Application Guid
Peking University Program
The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship - Peking University Program is a scholarship program donated to Education Forum for Asia by Peking University. The Education Forum for Asia Secretariat and Hunan Normal University co-administer the recruitment of the program.
There are 5 scholarships provided for the 2012/2013 academic year.
1. Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Language of Instruction
1) This program only sponsors General Visiting Students and Senior Visiting Students.
2) Duration of scholarship: 1 year.
3) General visiting students are required to take the Chinese proficiency exam after registration. Only those students whose results meet the standard are allowed to take specialty courses, otherwise they are suggested to study Chinese in the International College for Chinese Language Studies for one or tow semesters. For those who have already received the certificate of the HSK level 7 or New HSK level 6 and above, the Chinese language proficiency exam will be exempted. Senior visiting students are not required to take the Chinese language proficiency exam, on the premise of no communication obstacles with their supervisor.
2. Application
1) Applicants can apply directly to Education Forum for Asia, through Chinese Embassy in the host country, or through their own embassy in China to Education Forum for Asia.
2) Please log on http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ooirr for online registration, and have the hard copy printed and submitted.
3) The deadline for all applications is 15th April, 2012.
3. Eligibility
1) Applicants must be of non-Chinese nationalities and in good health.
2) Requirements on education backgrounds and ages of applicants:
* For general visiting students, who must have had at least 1 year of university education and be under the age of 45.
* For senior visiting students, who must be master degree holder or have already been admitted for Ph.D study, and be under the age of 50.
4. Scholarship Remarks
1) The scholarship covers tuition fees.
2) Any other expenses are at the applicant’s own cost. Estimated costs including:
10,000 RMB per year for double room dorm; 10,000 RMB yearly for food; 5,000 RMB yearly for city public transport and miscellaneous expenses; 300 RMB per semester for insurance.
5. Application Package
Applicants must provide valid documents as below:
1) Application Form for General Visiting Scholar. Please fill it out online, and have it printed out and pasted with ID photo. Please submit in both original and photocopy.
2) A notarized copy of the applicants’ highest diplomas and academic records. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verifications. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached Chinese or English translations.
3) Recommendation letters from 2 professors or associate professors, in English or Chinese.
4) Senior visiting applicants should submit a research plan with 1000 - 2000 words.
5) The Foreigner Medical Check Form (see attachment 2) should be filled out in English. The medical check is required to foreign scholars who pursue their study in China for more than 6 months (6 months included). Applicants must have all items listed on the Form checked. The incomplete notes, signature without the attending physician or official stamp of the hospital, or the absence of a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The check results will be valid for 6 months.
6) A photocopy of the front page of a valid passport.
The above mentioned documents should be received by Education Forum for Asia before 15th April 2012. Application materials will NOT be returned to the applicant no matter (s)he is accepted or not.
6. Selection of Institutions and Discipline
Applicants for this program are entitled to choose their interested disciplines among: Chinese Language and Literature, International Relations, History, Economics, Art and philosophy etc. Please see http://www.pku.edu.cn for more information.
7. Approval and Notification
1) Education Forum for Asia will review and forward all qualified applications to Peking University. The decision on the admission of applicants is remain at the university. The application will be considered invalid and will not be processed if documents provided by applicants are incomplete or inconsistent with recruitment regulations.
2) In general, approved disciplines and duration of the study will not allow to be changed after the Offer of Admission has been issued to the applicant.
3) Education Forum for Asia will send out the Offer of Admission and Visa Application Form for Studying in China to successful applicants before 30th June 2012.
