Long Youlin: Innovation education practice and development

Innovation education practice and development

Long Youlin

The paper discusses about the definition of innovative education and all that matters for innovative education. The importance of innovative education determines the trend of its popularization throughout Asia-Pacific region. China is not an exception in this regard, formulating and applying innovative education, adaptive to the development trends and more able to seize opportunities. When promoting this type of education, drawing and integrating experiences of both oriental and occidental world must be perceived a way of popularizing innovative education. Education both inside and outside universities should be oriented by practices and applications of what have been taught, so that cross-disciplinary model of education can get its due attention from educators. The focus of education falls in training students to improve their ability of learning, seizing opportunities, bettering their way of thinking and sharpening their competence of team work and knowledge transfer. Currently, most students in China are studying to graduate with high score in the examinations, which is the only determinant as to which higher school they can enter. They are learning mainly by memorizing what’s on textbooks, which is by no means beneficial to their innovativeness cultivation. But we must notice that the major purpose of education in Asian countries and areas such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong is also exam-driven, but the difference is that these countries make much more effort on striving for innovation in terms of education philosophy, curriculum design and teaching methods. Therefore, it explains why they are more able to produce more innovative talents capable of transferring knowledge from textbooks to real life. At last, the paper briefs on the relevance between industrial players who are providing education-related technological equipments, and innovative education, arguing that the application of efficient technologies is crucial to the development of education, otherwise values of education will never be materialized.
