Chen Qionghua: Looking at Taiwanese Higher Education by Examining the Management and Development of Taiwan Teacher's College

Lo         Looking at Taiwanese Higher Education by Examining the Management and Development of Taiwan Teacher's College

      Chen Qionghua

Abstract

It’s commonly known that current higher education in Taiwan is taking the way of development of refinement. Taiwan Normal University, in the North of the island, is not a convenient location by traffic. However it’s so popularly applied by students that it has created its own geographical advantages. With adequate academic institutions and qualified staff and the student-teacher ratio of reasonable 13, the university earned a high score in the Taiwan university rating in terms of both academic research and school management. Producing marketable graduates who should be catering to the interest of the society is our priority in mapping our teaching plan, which is to include all the elements in teaching and service industry.

We aim at producing not only future teachers but also masters in all fields, which requires more effort in multi-disciplinary research; therefore, we are hoping to establish a digital media center to combine all the teaching resources together and put them into use. Our purpose of producing elites and high quality professionals is in line with the goal of education in Taiwan----cultivating talents capable of competing in international labor market, which is an inevitable route through which to strengthen the power of Taiwan. Universities must be transformed to legal identities so as to make school management more flexible and efficient. On the whole, the reform in university education based on this transformation is the current major characteristics of the higher education in Taiwan.
