On January 1st the Education Forum for Asia assisted in putting on a forum for a SOHU Education internet company sponsored event, “60 Years of Educational Growth in China”. A large part of the forum was used to congratulate and reward many of the key contributors to education in China. The forum was held in the grand ballroom of the Beijing Grand Hyatt. Over 100 organizations and 60 individuals were awarded certificates and plaques recognizing their achievements over the past year. Reportedly, the original activities began on December 18th, 2009 officially started promoting the conference. “60 Years of Education in China, 60 Great Contributors”, followed by “The Top 100 Brands of Education”, “A Tribute to Distinguished Ideas in China’s Education System”, “A Look Back at the Educational Achievements of the New China”, and last but not least “A Few Words for the New Minister to Usher in a New Era of Education” were the 5 main topics of the forum. In the run up to this conference there were nearly 6000000 netizens who participated in nominating and voting for people; the nominations were then passed through a committee of experts to finally elect the “60 Great Contributors in the 60 Years of the New China”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Biggest Brands of Educational Institutions”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Biggest Immigrated Education Service Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Biggest Brands of Foreign Language Preparatory Course Providers”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Locally Run High School Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Commerce Schooling Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Foreign Study Service Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Foreign Language Training Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Long Distance Learning Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Vocational Training Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Information Technology Education Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Supplementary Education Institutions”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Preschool Education Organizations”, “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Independent Study Organizations”, and finally “The 60th Anniversary, 10 Most Influential Private Education Organizations”. Present at the ceremony were many very notable people. Standing Committee Member of the National People’s Congress, Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Association for Promoting Democracy, The China Association for Non-Government Funded Education Vice President, Wang Zuoshu; National Human Resource Department Deputy Minister Cheng Lianchang, China Education Society President Gu Mingyuan, China Education Press Agency President Shi Xijiang, and SOHU Network Editor in Chief Yu Wei all attended the ceremony, as well as education specialists and foreign government officials, stationed in their national embassies, were also present to witness this grand event |
