Application procedures for the Asia Foreign Study scholarship –Peking University Program
Asia Foreign Study scholarship - Peking University Program is a partial scholarship program donated by Peking University to Education Forum for Asia. The International Relations Office of Peking University and Education Forum for Asia co-administer the recruitment and routine management of the program.
There are 5 partial scholarships are provided for 2010/2011academic year.
Categories of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship and Language Requirement
1. This program only sponsors non-degree general and senior scholars.
2. Duration of Scholarship: 1 year.
3. The courses will be taught in Chinese, which requires the candidates have a proficiency of Chinese Language to start their major learning and the minimum requirement is HSK level 7 or above.
Application
1. The applicant can apply directly to Education Forum for Asia Beijing, through the Chinese Embassy in the host country, or through their own embassy to Education Forum for Asia Beijing.
2. An application can be filled out through Peking University’s online registration system (http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ooirr) (print off a hard copy).
3. The online applications must be finished, at the latest, by April 30, 2011.
Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2. The educational background and age limit:
l Applicants for general scholars must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45.
l Applicants for senior scholars must have master degree or hold a qualification for pursing doctoral degree and be under the age of 50.
Details of the Scholarship
1. This partial scholarship only covers tuition
2. Any other expenses are expected to be self-funded including the following references of accommodation 10,000 RMB (double room standard), basic food expenses of 10,000 RMB, in-city travel and other incidental expenses of 5,000 RMB, 1,000 RMB insurance charges respectively for a year.
Application Materials
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly.
1. Filled in the online General Scholar application form for Peking University– Study in China, print off a copy and attach photos to it.
2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy) and academic record. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English transcripts (notarized photocopy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors
4. A copy of the achieved Chinese HSK language level certification.
5. A 1,000-1,200 words research plan for senior scholars.
6. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed on the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital, or a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration when determining the time to take the medical examination. This Physical Examination is also strongly advised to happen in China when on campus to avoid invalid l checkup.
7. The photocopy of valid passport, the front page
The abovementioned materials should be received by the Education Forum for Asia, at the latest, by May 20, 2009. Application materials will NOT be returned regardless of whether the applicant is accepted or not.
Approval and Notification
1. Education Forum for Asia will review all application materials from the appointed authorities and is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the applied institutions, disciplines and duration of study. Forum will directly contact the applicant or the applicant guarantor whenever necessary. Qualified applications will be forwarded to Peking University and the final decision whether to admit the applicants or not will be made. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the application materials are inconsistent with recruitment regulations, or materials are incomplete.
2. Finalized placements, disciplines and duration of study are, in principle, not to be changed.
3. Education Forum for Asia will have the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) sent to the applicant within a week after documents get received.
