Asian Foreign Study Scholarship (2011/12) Brought to a Successful Conclusion On August 9 the application process for the Asian Foreign Study Scholarship (Academic Year 2011/12) was brought to a successful conclusion. The organizing committee of Education Forum for Asia had received 21 applications since March. Eventually, twelve applicants were admitted following rigorous evaluation by EFA and the host universities. The successful applicants were admitted by the University of Macau, Macau Institute for Tourism Studies, Hunan Normal University, Shandong University and Capital University of Economics and Business. In addition to Chinese language studies, the students chose a variety of Majors including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hotel Management, Guests Entertainment and Gambling Management, and Tourism Exhibition and Program Management. Wong Chinghan, a Malaysian applicant, was fortunate to be offered a place from both the University of Macau and Macau Institute for Tourism Studies. The Asian Foreign Study Scholarship (China) was initiated by EFA, which is also responsible for the fund-raising. Its goal is to encourage the flow of students and academicians among Asian countries, to further understanding among different nations and ethnicities of Asia and to increase educational level of the whole of Asia. The Secretariat of EFA and the China Scholarship Council, working with specific academic institutions participating in the programme, are responsible for the enrollment and the management of these students when they are in China. The admission notices are sending out to the students and the term opens at the end of August or early September. The section responsible for the Scholarship of EFA organizing committee will keep in touch with the students as well as the universities, and will paying continuous attention to the students’ study and growth.
