On the afternoon of November 16th, 2009, the 4th annual 'University Student Photography Exhibition' award ceremony took place at the '2009 Education Forum for Asia Euro-Asia Cooperation Conference'(2009 Education Forum for Asia) opening ceremony. 6 Foreign and Domestic honored guests were on hand to present the awards to the winners. The award ceremony was organized by the China Youth Daily President Xu Wenxin. The honored guests on hand to deliver the award to the winning students were: Former Prime Minister of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Kirti Nidhi Bista; Sri Lankan Ambassador to China Mr. Karunatilaka Amunugama; Association for Non-Government Funded Education President, Tao Xiping; Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress, Wang Zuoshu; Secretary of the China Education Development Foundation, Zhang Zhongyuan; and Vice-Chairman of the Shanxi Province Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Daohong. October 30th, 2009, after the careful judging of a panel of experts, awards were given out to the winning students. There was 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 8 3rd prizes and 25 excellence prizes handed out, altogether 37 prize winning entries. The first place entry out of the 2200 applicants came from a Nanchang University in Jiangxi student for a photo themed 'Backstage Happiness'. At the '2009 Education Forum for Asia' there were 6 representatives from the award winners participating. During the conference, 70 photographs were on display including the 37 winning entries. The 4th annual 'University Student Photography Exhibition', starting September 10th, 2009, received over 2200 entries from many countries, including: China, Russia, Korea, Kazakhstan, and the USA. Diverse categories of photos were also collected, such as: news photos, portrait photos, folk custom photos, scenery photos, and many others. The cultural and artistic diversity of the contest was truly remarkable and made for a wonderful and interesting collage of artistic endeavor. All of the students; circling around the topic 'smiling expressions', approached the task from different angles. Some had nationalistic themes, some geographical, others cultural, and still others that reflected the lives and stories of people. The 'University Student Photography Exhibition' is sponsored by Education Forum for Asia Beijing, China Youth Daily, and China University Media Alliance. Since its beginnings in 2006, the exhibition has received entries from Greater China, Vietnam, Nepal, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Kazakhstan, the USA, and many others, altogether 20 Asia Pacific Nations have participated. Altogether it has received over 8000 entries and rewarded 194 prizes to its participants.
