On October 30th, 2009, the Education Forum for Asia Beijing, China Youth Daily, and the China University Media Alliance sponsored 'University Student Photography Exhibition' came to fruition as the awards for the contest were handed out to the winners. Of some 500 students who entered the contest, 37 were awarded prizes. There was one 1st place prize, three 2nd place, eight 3rd place, and 25 awards for excellence.

Kazakhstan, Nepal, Korea, Greater China, the USA, Russia, and many more all had students participate. Under the theme 'Smiling Expressions' a broad range of entries came forth. Some represented a sense of national pride, some were photographs of big events, some displayed stunning geographical regions, while others were reflections of the cultural backgrounds of the students and told stories of where they had come from.
