High-Level Forum on China’s Privately-Funded Education 2008, jointly organized by the Education Forum for Asia, China Association for Privately-Funded Education and China Education TV Station, concluded on 22 December, 2008 in Beijing, China. Under the theme of Innovation, Sustainability and Development, there were more then 300 hundred people present at the Forum who discussed, and explored broad-ranging issues facing non-governmental-education sector in China such as: laws and rules promulgation, the interactions between private and public education, the roles and functions of governments including the newly established association to encourage and regulate its progress, barriers and problems lying ahead, international fundraising, investments and mergers, lessons and gains in private education development, development strategies, brand-name breeding and management, roles of JV and PE , international exchange and collaboration at nearly all levels in basic education, tertiary education, vocational education and training in China. Mr. Wang Xuming, Former Spokesman of Education Ministry of China, chaired and opened the Forum. Present at the meeting were Madam He Luli, Former Vice-Chairperson of National People's Congress of China, Mr. Wang Zuoshu, Vice Chairman of Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, Executive Vice President of China Association for Privately-Funded Education. Also attending the meeting were Mr.Fan Boyuan, Former vice Mayor of Beijing Municipal Government and Principal of Beijing University of Technology, Mr. Yao Wang, Senior Director of Boao Forum for Asia and Secretary General of Education Forum for Asia, Madam Chen Li, Vice President of China Education TV Station and Mr. K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, Minister Counsellor of Embassy of Sri Lanka. At the closing ceremony of December 22, Mr.Tao Xiping, President of China Association for Privately-Funded Education and Mr.Chuan Chee Meng, Education Counsellor of Embassy of Malaysia addressed the meeting. During the book-donation campaign, 7 VIP meeting delegates handed out the book Seventeen Significant Moments of Beijing Olympic Games, by HE. Mr. Rashid Alimov, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in China, to 15 students from Beijing Haidian Xingzhi Pilot School’s who made wonderful performances towards the end of the meeting. Beijing Haidian Xingzhi Pilot School is a school whose students are mainly migrant workers’ children from rural areas.
