Education Forum for Asia 2006 Annual Conference

It is our great pleasure to cordially invite you to take part in the Education Forum for Asia 2006 Annual Conference. This event, co-organized by Boao Forum for Asia, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the China Scholarship Council, will be held in Beijing, China, October 20-22, 2006.

Education Forum for Asia was initiated by 7 initiators from Asia Pacific region in December, 2003. Through three years of concerted effort and the support of partners in education circles all over Asia and the world, Education Forum for Asia has received wide public support and acceptance from countries throughout the Asia Pacific region. By providing an effective platform for exchange and cooperation among government education officials, schools, scholars and education experts, private enterprises involved in the development of education, and society as a whole, Education Forum for Asia has been able to further its mission of building bridges for Asian Education.

Nearly 500 guests will be invited to take part in the 2006 event including forum initiators, ministers of education from the Asia Pacific region, university administrators, scholars, and representatives from educational institutions, international organizations, and private enterprises. Asian ministers of education taking part in the Roundtable Meeting of Ministers will exchange ideas on “Education Development Strategies for Asian Countries in the New Century.” Again at this year’s event, government officials from the Asian countries responsible for international cooperation and exchange will be invited to take part in the “Boao Consultative Meeting on Education Cooperation for Asia”, which has become an increasingly more effective mechanism for cooperation on education. Officials taking part in this meeting will to make presentations on a variety of subjects including the assessment and authentication of diplomas and degrees awarded by institutions of higher learning, the expansion of international student exchanges, the improvement of teaching quality, and strategies for providing more equitable development of education in all countries and regions.

Other topics for discussion at this year’s conference will include vocational education and sustainable development, Asia art education, innovation in education, and international and bilingual education in high schools. We welcome

you to take part in the sessions which you are interested. In addition, for the second consecutive year, the Haidian Education Fair will be held during the conference period.

With the foundation set by the past three conferences, the 2006 Annual Conference will no doubt be characterized by a lively atmosphere, an effective consultative mechanism, rich content, pragmatism, and a large variety of regions represented. With the ongoing aim of perfecting the positive results already achieved, this year’s event will take a significant step towards quickening the pace of improved cooperation and exchange within the Asia Pacific region, thereby promoting economic and cultural development.

Your participation in the conference would be both welcome and much appreciated. If you are interested in the special sessions, please indicate which session(s) you wish to attend on the bottom of your registration form. Please fax the attached registration form, a digital photo which is the same size with you passport to the Organizing Committee of Education Forum for Asia prior to August 31, 2006.
